As a mom, we spend a lot of time trying to meet our children’s needs, and that can be fulfilling but stressful at the same time. Depending on where you are in making your goal of working at home, every minute counts. We wonder in the backs of our minds, how can I get time to work on my business if things are changing all the time. There have been many times that I was thinking I did not have time to get anything accomplished when my children woke from a nap, or we were going somewhere in the car. When I realized that I could do things on a smaller scale, it helped me to not feel overwhelmed.
I will share three tips to stay productive that I have used through the ups and downs in my schedule to continue to make progress. First: Making your to do list. By figuring out the time you will need to get each item done, things can be made more manageable. This step has forced me to not guess, but really be more accurate with my time. Before, I felt stress building up when the ten minutes I thought would be enough for an e-mail was more like twenty minutes. Having a mindset like this will help you in ways such as choosing only three things from your to do list to complete instead of tackling the entire list all at once.
Secondly: If you create a bag and a portable office in your car, things can still get done. Going with the theme of keeping things simple will help to not create clutter. Having a simple list will lead to checking things off. A notepad, folder, clipboard, or app on your phone can help get things done when there are short or long periods available. Three: Have a container or bag for the kids stuff so they can be entertained by themselves. I find having a bag with food and drinks can bring added assistance. Moms tend to know what their children love or hate. Stocking up on those things is handy too.
